Burnout: What it is and How to Deal with it

Have you ever calculated the playtime poured into your MMO or Game of choice?  I suggest you don’t, it might make you second guess your hobby!  Gaming is a  black hole of time investment, and it can get old for some players.  We call this feeling Burnout.

Burnout’s major symptoms include:

  • The feeling that logging in is a chore, not an escape.
  • Not knowing what to do when logged in.
  • No interest in coordinated group activities.
  • Low output when in groups.
  • That icky feeling that there is something you’d rather be doing.

Burnout remedies include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Time off from said game causing burnout.  (Please inform your GM or Raid Leader when taking time off)
  • “Cleansing you Game Palette’ with old favorites or new choices.
  • Sunshine (Go with me on this one).
  • Exercise (Stay with me).
  • Date Night with your Significant other.
  • Rolling an Alt Class in your current game.
  • Doing anything other than said game causing burnout.

It’s perfectly acceptable to say “I’ve had enough for now.”  It could even make you a better player when you do choose to return.  Communication when taking a break is key.  If you fill a major role in your Raid’s composition, it is imperative you let your leader, or members if you are leading, that you need time off.  Set up and exit plan and stick to it.

The Zergadin community is not going anywhere, and we want our members 100% when they choose to spend time in it.

Here’s to Loot filled Raids and Ops!
