Your welcome into the Forsaken starting zone is a lot more to the point than in Vanilla. There’s really something to be said for Blizzard’s intro quests in Cataclysm as all of them really do an excellent job of giving you a sense of who you are and why you do what you do as your race.

So you wake up near this pile of dead bodies and realize you’re a Forsaken, and you (the player) say to yourself: “Ok cool, so whats differen-WAIT A MINUTE THERE IS A LEVEL 80 VALKYR RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!”
Relax.
From the start they explain to you that you were a human from South Shore, they brought your body back here and resurrected you as a Forsaken. They explain that they are able to do this because the Valkyr have joined the Forsaken, and that they possess that ability from the Lich King’s “Gift”,
(If you dont remember seeing this explained, go back and do UT Pinnacle, http://www.wowhead.com/npc=26668)

So you might be saying to yourself, “Ok, cool so I’m a NEW shiny Forsaken!” But they tell you in sort of Undead Doctor Cox way: “Uh, yea thats real nice Shirley, but not everyone here shares your optimism.”

So you go talk to these 3 Forsaken. The first guy was a Paladin, and he’s like,

Then you go talk to this little girl, who was a daddy’s girl: apparently her father is a high Priest in the Scarlet Crusade… shes freaking out that shes ugly… which is laughable since shes also dead but shes more concerned that shes ugly…

The third and final guy’s issue is that he looks down at his hands and panics because they aren’t his hands. You explain that they probably sowed him some new hands and he feels a little better. You explain why he should fight with the Forsaken and he agrees and you all feel a little better about yourself.
The rest of the zone is basically a warm up on how the Forsaken do things… while it is interesting, its not a very big deal to kind of cruise control through… however…
Silverpine Forest

So they send you off to Silverpine and Sylvanas is there waiting for you. She tells you shes waiting on Garrosh so she can show him the new toys. (No, not her zombie boobies.)

So he gets there, she explains that the situation is this:
-The Forsaken population is greatly diminished since the events in Wrath of the Lich King.
-Because of this, and the fact that they cant use the plague, holding onto their land is proving more and more difficult…
-If they lose their land, the Horde loses the land and an invaluable ally.

SO Sylvanas shows him how she can make new Forsaken, and he flips shit. He makes a very good case though: What separates her from the Lich King now?
She sasses back that she serves the Horde, and he calls her a clever bitch.

So now not only are the Forsaken forbidden from using this new toy, but they cant use the plague either… WTF GARROSH!
But ok, ok.. its fine. Ethically I see where he’s coming from.
So thats when you notice the Worgen attacking the encampment. You do a few quests and find out that Crowley (think Vice Pres. of the Worgens) is rounding up the Feral’s (Worgen that went beyond the wall when the outbreak first happened and tried to simply live it out in the woods.) and trying to recruit them.

Well Sylvanas doesn’t like that, so now she sends you on a mission to hunt down the Nobles out at the Island in the middle of the Lake. So you go out there, disobeying Garrosh as you go, resurrecting these humans as Forsaken. You get to the the room where the Nobles are and Crowley is there with the Feral pack leader, and you learn an interesting twist: Worgen humans are immune to Forsaken Resurrection…

So faced with the choice between the 2, the Humans choose to become Worgen. You and the Valkyr that came with you are like, “OMG RUN!”

You get back and they send you to the Coastline and rendezvous with the Orc Navy…

You get out there and they are all drunk, the boats are on fire or sunk, half the crew is missing and the supplies are scattered: The Worgen beat you there.
After cleaning up that shit storm, you head on to the Sepulcher.
There you meet up with a Forsaken DK to try to hunt down some Worgen in a cave… but its a trap and they try to kill you by triggering explosives and causing a cave in. You alone escape, and report back with your failure.

So it’s starting to seem like the Forsaken have to break a bunch of rules just to get no where…
And you start to feel like you’re on the losing side of things, but you all just keep pressing on…

So you show up to the front lines of the battle for Gilneas and it looks BAD. Worgen are rushing your outposts, the General there tells you that their outposts have been overrun… it’s just in general NOT GOOD!

Apparently the Worgen rebels have been using hit and run tactics, which is no surprise since their leader was a rebel even before he was turned into a Werewolf. This is stressing out high command though, since even though they have superior numbers and weapons, they’re losing.

So you go around doing missions and scouting and come to find out: OH SHIT! The Alliance is here! and not just any Alliance either, oh no. Its the 7th Legion.

Now, even as a Lore nut, at first I was saying: “The who?”
But then I remembered seeing them in Northrend… they basically sum it up for you anyways: they’re like a super bad ass black-ops group. Like the Marines…basically.
Well not only are they here but there are more Alliance on the way.

So now the Alliance have the numbers AND the tactics… they over run your outpost mere moments after you leave, so you must rendezvous with your Rogue friend you made a little earlier on. He tells you that the Rebels have their trail and are looking for them, but reveals to you Sylvanas plan: resurrect Lord Godfrey.

As a Horde who hasn’t done the Worgen starting zone, you might once again be saying: “Who?”
Lord Godfrey was a Gilnean Noble who refused to become infected with the Worgen curse like his comrades… In fact, when he learned that the Gilnean king had become a Worgen, and then when they attempted to kill him,

he and his 2 Noble buddies committed suicide… As humans… (so yea, they would rather die than be Worgen…)

How fortunate! His body is at the bottom of a cliff!
So you go get his body and bring it back to Sylvanas who has acquired the other 2 noble’s bodies.
She resurrects them, and they agree to serve… I guess.

This is when you find out that the Wizards of Ambermill (Dalaran affiliated) are working with the Rebels, supplying them. Bad News: there is a barrier up that puts all the mages in a different dimension (…wha?) Good news!: the Forsaken have an Arch Mage who was in the Kirin Tor!

So you get inside and kill this Archmage leader guy, then raise him as a Forsaken. He’s pissed but kind of just goes with it…

With that out of the way, Crowley and his buddies reveal the big plan: Kidnap Crowley’s daughter.
… Umm, why? What good will that do? I mean, don’t get me wrong he seems like he-
SHES A HUMAN STILL!

Holy shit! Ladies and Gentlemen: we have leverage!

So you take her and call Crowley out from the middle of the battle.

Crowley shows up with the Feral pack-leader and is like, “Pffft the hell you want”
She tells him to surrender, he says fat chance. So she has Godfrey bring out Lorna, Crowley’s daughter, and she offers Crowley a choice: surrender completely, flee and he can have Lorna.
Deny the Banshee Queen, and she will die and be raised a Forsaken to serve them forever…

He agrees, much to the dismay of the entire Alliance forces, and leaves…

And then Godfrey shoots Sylvanas in the back with a rifle.

WAIT…WHAT??
Yea, Godfrey and the other nobles betray her, then attack you saying they are going to take over Gilneas…Silverpine…then Lordaeron… You fight them off and they flee to Shadowfang keep.

Cromush the Orc General screams at the Val’kyr there to bring Sylvanas back…
The 3 agree that although it will cost them their lives to resurrect her, it must be done…

They bring her back, and she has a sort of revelation. She is certain that the Val’kyr are the key to the Forsaken’s future. So she’s going to resurrect more and more, and the Forsaken are going to stop at nothing until they control the North completely.

They are officially a force to be reckoned with, and have become key members of the Horde once more….
