Today some of us watched an amazing PR debacle unfold, provided by the Diablo 3 developers on facebook and several other fan sites.
There’s too much info to compile for now, but I will simply point you all in the right direction, if you would like to read up on a ****storm of epic proportions. Several threads have popped up on the D3 general forums as well.
Basically, youtube interview with the original creator of D1/D2:
And the D3 team response:

Very quick history: D3 was in process by the original D1/D2 team at “Blizzard North” in San Mateo, CA (SF Bay Area, Northern Cali) from ~2001 to ~2003, then put on the back burner because Blizzard didn’t like where they were going with the game. In 2005, Blizzard North was closed, and several folks had already started their own gaming companies, while just a few were relocated to Blizzard (Irvine, CA, that houses WoW, etc).
In 2005-2006ish, D3 development was taken over by people that had NO experience in Action RPG games.
Fast forward to May 15, 2012. Release of D3. Epic Fail. The game was unstable and many times unplayable, while even months later still has issues.
D3 sales broke records, riding on the coattails of D1/D2. The D3 community is vocal in pointing out the issues with the game, and has been patient, because we are mostly die hard fans of the Diablo franchise, created by the man in the above interview. If D3 was an original game, launched with some other title, it would have been mediocre at best, and lasted a month.
The facebook responses by the D3 developers, which have been confirmed to be legitimate accounts with long histories attached, so they are NOT fake posts, are at best the result of a few too many drinks with a smartphone in hand at the bar.
At worst, which it seems to be, the response is a slap to the Diablo creator as well as the fans of the entire Diablo franchise that have been patiently awaiting changes to our beloved game.
On the bittersweet side, patch 1.04 for D3 does look fantastic (ie: Panzers article on Paragon Levels) – it seems as if they are patching the game up to what it should have launched at. Sounds familiar, eh?
