Editor’s Note: This Datacron has been recovered by Mattman Starbanger.
“Don’t screw this up Walter. We need to get Mattman back. And don’t let Azhi find out either or he will be pissed. Sometimes I think you don’t take me seriously.” stated commander Zyley.
Walter, who had already turned his back and was walking away, rolled his eyes deep into the back of his head while making flappy talking motions with the fingers of his hands. “Don’t worry so much Zyley you know I got this.”
The door to the briefing room slammed behind Walter and he began to stroll casually though the long empty halls of the black talon. He would stop and peek into a room every now and again to make it look like he was doing something. Then he would wander around looking for another way to pass the time. Eventually he got bored and got on his holocommunicator to talk to Susannah, one of the Chiss agents that had joined the zergadins, and one which Walter had grown quite fond of. They chatted back and forth for awhile…
“Oh yeah and get this” Walter rambled “the entire Silverstike team is gonna be gone helping the General with ‘ghosts of the past that have come back to haunt him’ Walter laughed at his own Zyley impersonation, Sussanah was hardly impressed. Walter continued.
“So he left me in charge while he’s gone, can you believe it! Anyway sugar I’m gonna have to go now and do some important… galactic… planetary…” the hand he wasn’t using to hold his communicator Walter was now directing a crate of spacer juice and spice into the lounge of his quarters. He finished his conversation by throwing the holocommunicator on the ground and quickly saying
“oh yeah by the way Mattman is stuck on Belsavis somewhere and you need to go rescue him.” Susannah’s voice squealed back from the communication device as it rolled on the floor. Walter began to mix himself a chilled Corellian cocktail.
Azhi Dahaki was leaning over an assortment of laboratory equipment poking at something with two scalpels. Azhi, who had been in there for an untold amount of time, had become accustomed to the low light of the lab. But the fact that his senses were not impaired was negated by interest in his work, and he failed to notice Sussanah enter the room and wait for her eyes to adjust to the dark. When she did find Azhi she approached and said “excuse me sir”.
Her words brought no reaction however. Azhi’s attention was so deeply sunk into his experiment that Sussanah had to tap him on the shoulder and almost scream. “Excuse me Dr. Azhi!”
He whirled around so fast, and so completely surprised, that the drool hanging from his bottom lip flung out and splattered all over Sussanah’s uniform.
“Doctor!?! I am no Doctor! Apparently you don’t have to be a Doctor to become the Zergadins Medical Officer!” Azhi removed the lenses and laser lights that we’re attached to his headpiece and continued his rant. “Do you know how many mutanogenic compounds it takes to make one Exotech Absorption Adrenal? Or how much radioactive paste goes into a single fucking skill stim? And don’t even get me started on red goo! Oh, the red goo! No, of course you don’t know these things! I don’t think anybody knows these things! They just said congratufuckinglations Azhi you’re the Medical Officer now make us some consumables! What he hell do you want anyway? We getting low on stims? Adrenals? Don’t tell me you need a fucking implant!”
“ummmm no sir” Sussanah’s reply was almost inaudible. “Apparently Mattman is trapped on Belsavis and we need to go rescue him.”
Azhi began visibly channeling his hatred and Sussanah didn’t need another que to get the hell out of the laboratory. She got the door closed just in time to hear the shattering glass of several beakers and test tubes hit the door behind her.
“Ok, so I guess he’s out” she thought to herself as she wiped the drool from her uniform and began to make her way to the galactic trade network terminal. She planned to search the market for a decent bounty hunter as it seemed she would have to get some outside help if her mission was going to be completed.
Sussanah scanned the galactic trade network looking for just the right bounty hunter. They needed someone that could provide maximum firepower and still be able to get in there and take some hits if Mattman got caught in a mind trap or something. She spoke softly to herself as she browsed the available guns for hire.
“Here’s one named Buhrn, hmmmm no he’s to much like the general, here’s a few mercenaries, one here looks decent yeah I’ll put in an bid for him… Oh who’s this bonanza character. Oh yeah she’s perfect! Holy shit look at her damage per nano-second! And she is a Chiss babe like me! We have to have her!”
Susanna was transferring credits to the hunter when she got a message from Walter. “Hey have you got Mattman back yet? And what the hell happened in the laboratory I found Growlz down there in a kolto tank all by himself. That tank was about he only thing down there that wasn’t all pissed up. Where in the hell is azhi? He can’t leave the lab like that. Call me.”
Sussanah ignored the message and communicated the details of the assignment to the bounty hunter. After she finished that she made her way to the hangar where her phantom class star fighter was being prepped for departure.
Bonanza was the first on the surface of the planet. The weather was cold and wet and the wind blew so hard it was almost impossible to see. In fact if it weren’t for the heat signature on her thermal imaging system the hunter would have had no idea which direction to go. But as it were she followed the clue to an enormous burning droid. There was wreckage everywhere. bonanza began to investigate the scene and found that the droid was once flanked by two towering turrets. They were both destroyed with the same ferocity as the droid. She soon noticed that what was left of the droid and turrets had very distinct gouges that could only be caused by light sabers.
She made an entry in her journal by speaking out loud, “Somebody wielding two light sabers it seems has single handedly destroyed all the weaponry that appeared to be guarding the entrance to this vault”
“How do you know it wasn’t two guys each with one light saber?” a voice came from behind. Bonanza pulled her blaster with the quickest draw Sussanah had ever seen and whirled around.
“Hey easy there hunter, I’m the one who hired you. Seriously though how do you know?” Sussanah questioned.
With her expert knowledge of fighting styles and stances bonanza was able to come up with an overly satisfying answer to this question. She went on for awhile about the different stances used by light saber wielding warriors. Then she was interrupted by a terrible howl that sounded like it came from deep within the vault they had been standing at the entrance to. They looked at each other and both said simultaneously “Firestalkers.”
They raced into the vault and around its long empty corridors. As they got deeper and deeper they began to hear the sounds of battle.
“Sounds like whoever took out the defenses of this vault is working on the firestalkers that live deep in the underground lava tubes” said sussanah.
“Listen closer, I agree that they were killing firestalkers but now it sounds like they are fighting something else…something bigger” replied bonanza.
The two Chiss quickly found the trail of mutilated carcasses and as they ran through an old lava tube the ground started to shake and the tunnel began to collapse. They went faster and faster, dodging falling boulders and jumping lava filled cracks until suddenly they rounded a corner and the tunnel opened up into a huge dome shaped room filled with molten lava. The two slid to a stop just before they fell into the fiery mixture swirling just below them. They looked out over the enormous lava lake and saw a hideous monster on a rock island in the middle of the lake. The monster spotted them at the same time and let out a ferocious roar that shook the walls.
“Take cover” screamed Sussanah as she knelt down behind her portable shield. The monster then jumped high in the air and landed right in front of the two knocking them both back on their asses.
“I think this constitutes hazard pay” yelled Bonanza as she scrambled behind a boulder for cover.
The monster then picked up this same boulder like it was a toy and held the rock high above it’s head preparing to smash the bounty hunter with it. Bonanza could only stare in awe at the creature as she was paralyzed by fear. Then, just before the rock was dropped two light saber beams came right through the beasts midsection stopping only inches away from bonanzas face. With a whoosh they split apart completely cutting the monster in two. The boulder that was being lifted fell strait down, crushing the monsters head like a melon. As soon as the boulder hit the floor someone jumped on top of it, twirled his light sabers a bit, and stashed them away on his belt.
It was Azhi Dahaki. Seems he had decided to join the party after all. “Well it sure is nice of you to show up.” said Sussanah
Azhi picked some pieces of the enemy off his chest. “Did you see how much red goo came out of that thing!” exclaimed, as he pulled out his bioanalizer.
“What are you going to do with that thing?” Bonanza asked
“If you are squeamish you might want to look away.” Azhi replied, and then plunged the device deep into the remains of the beast. Bonanza wished she had taken Azhi’s advice and quickly turned away shielding her face from the bits and pieces that were being scattered around.
“Hey guys, I think I found a way out of here” Sussanah’s voice echoed through the cavern. So the two adventures followed her up another lava tube until eventually they came onto the surface of Belsavis again. The landscape was vastly different than the snow covered tundra where they had entered. Instead, a lush jungle spread out before them. As they surveyed the area Bonanza soon noticed that there were two pylons visible in the distance even above the towering foliage. After some arguing and discussion they decided they would stick together and head for the pylons. Azhi’s light sabers made short work of clearing a path through the thick jungle.
When they came upon the pylon structures it became quite clear that they were meant to be some kind of lock. There was a enormous door that lead to yet another underground chamber. This door was being held open by the energy the pylons were radiating and could obviously be held shut by the same energy. This made the reservations they had about going underground insignificant, as they did not want to get locked out now that they were so close to catching up with Mattman. They entered the underground for a second time and the wide hallway that stretched out from the entrance soon opened up into a symmetrical room where eight humanoid bodies lay mutilated and scattered around the room.
“Azhi did you have something to do with this” asked Sussanah as she noticed wounds similar to those bonanza said where made by dual wielded light sabers.
“I wish I could claim a victory like this but it is obvious to me that these wounds were inflicted by a double bladed light saber, one like Mattman uses.” answered Azhi.
Bonanza agreed “Yeah, if you notice the intricate variation in the rippling…”
“Oh shut up,” Sussanah interrupted “I’m sick of you guys talking about light sabers if you like em so much bonanza why don’t you rock one?”
Bonanza pondered the question for a bit before saying “That is an interesting idea. But let’s rescue this Mattman first I’m anxious to meet the guy that can create this kind of carnage.”
The three adventures exited the room through another hall opposite the way the entered. As they neared the next large room they saw a huge Rakata kneeling in the middle of a circular floor.
“Rakata,” said bonanza “I thought they were all extinct?”
“I thought so too” agreed Sussanah.
“Did someone say Rakata?” Azhi asked as he pulled his light sabers “I fucking HATE Rakata!”
Instantly, he leaped to the enemy and began thrashing away with his weapons. Bonanza didn’t need another que and she joined in the melee. Sussanah picked a spot to set up her portable shield and began pumping blaster bolts into the enemy. The Rakata countered by jumping into to air and throwing force powered lightning balls at everyone. These hurt the Zergadins, but it seems like the damage they were doing was hurting the enemy more. After several minutes of dodging lightning balls and mounting wave after wave of successful attacks it seemed the Zergadins were about to take down this enormous enemy.
Azhi was wailing away, and his two light sabers appeared to be doing a beautiful dance with each other as his timing and rhythm was something to behold. Sussanah was diving in and out of cover as she chucked grenades and pumped round after well aimed round of blaster bolts into the Rakata’s armor. Bonanza’s flame thrower kept constant pressure on the enemy while the hunter blasted away at the enemies weak spots. The Rakata was becoming visibly fatigued and the rate at which he was throwing lightning balls at the heroes was obviously slowing.
“Pile it on!” bonanza exclaimed as she shot an adrenal Azhi had passed him into his leg. Sussanah did a quick check of the surroundings before she looked down her scope and fired a few more rounds into the Rakata.
“Wait a tick” she thought and looked around again. Something was not right. The columns that had been lining the outside on the chamber were now missing it seemed. She looked up just in time to see them swirling around in the air above the battleground. It seemed the enemy was only fatigued because it was focusing its force powers on lifting these huge columns into the air. An instant later they all came crashing down as the Rakata leaped high into the air followed by a few rockets and grenades the Zergadins managed toss out at the last instant.
Azhi was even able to pull out the fabled ‘Choppa’ sword he always carries with him and boomerang throw it as he fell. The floor gave way to the crashing columns and the heroes fell along with all the rubble created in the collision. They leaped back and forth between a few pieces of falling rock looking for an escape. But their efforts were not rewarded and they plummeted down to the deep dark bottom of the cavern.
Drifting in and out of consciousness Bonanza saw an image of Sussanah’s bloody face beaten and broken. An image of Azhi laying face down on the floor twisted and mangled faded in and back out of her narrow vision. Then bonanza felt as if she were being drug across the floor. She could vaguely make out a hooded figure pulling her by the feet, before she slipped back into unconsciousness.
In time she woke up to hear whispered conversation.
“We don’t have any hope…”
“…we’ll die down here…”
“…should have never left Walter in charge.”
When she finally woke up long enough to get herself upright she found the two Zergadins she had come here with sitting beside another hooded figure.
“Looks like she’s up” said this third person.
“Don’t move Bonanza, you’re banged up pretty bad, we all are” whimpered Sussanah.
“I’m fine” proclaimed Azhi as he limped over to Bonanza and with a shaky hand injected her with the last med pack.
“Argh! That hurt. Now who in the hell is that? Last I remember there were only three of us.” asked Bonanaza.
“That is Mattman, the one we came to rescue, but apparently we fell for the same trap he did.” Azhi explained.
“So what happens now that we got him? Is there a way to get out of here?” asked Bonanza.
“I have explored all other alternatives, which didn’t take long considering there are exactly zero, and discovered that the only way out is strait up.” as Mattman gave his sarcastic response he pointed up and saw a glowing figure floating high in the air above them.
“Azhi, come take a look at this!” Mattman said with a worried tone.
“What in the hell is that?” wondered Azhi.
As the figure neared they were able to make out the profile of a female twi’lek. She had her arms spread out wide and appeared to be using the Force to lower herself slowly down. She touched down softly on the ground and with another fantastic show of Force created a ring of healing around the Zergadins.
Mattman scratched his head a little before asking, “Who in the hell are you, and why do I feel so damn good all of a sudden?”
The beautiful twi’lek answered in a strange accent, “I am Nephalem Quintanilla-Pèrez, and I have come to rescue you and your compañeros”
“I’m sorry to burst your bubble miss blahble blahdable but we are Zergadins, not comple… chomplehas…” stuttered Azhi.
“shhh” interrupted Nephalem, “There is no time to waste, I sense a disturbance in the force, I fear we have awoken the Rakata.”
“How did you know we were here?” asked Sussanah.
“I was sent by Saybur Silverstrike, he said he was worried because Zyley left Walter in charge. He said that Walter was probably going to get everyone killed.” explained Nephalem. Sussanah shrugged in agreement.
The Zergadins were all feeling revived and ready in the presence of the powerful Nephalem. They drew their weapons and prepared for battle. The enemy could be heard making its way down to them, boasting and bragging about how it was going to crush the Zergadins. Mattman Starbanger took a stim from Azhi, shot it into his leg, threw down the empty syringe, then spit on the floor where it landed.
“I’m going to down this asshole once and for all” he declared.
