“Steam’s description: “Uncertain of his sister’s fate, a boy enters LIMBO…”That’s all it says. This “LIMBO”, based on the pictures displayed by Steam, is a mono chromatic 2.5 dimensional world hostile to anyone who chooses to enter. How exactly did this boy enter this world?
You’d think you’d learn this early on, even in a demo, but this game is big on questions and small on answers. You start the game as a lump on the ground. I sat there for a good 30 seconds waiting for something to happen before I finally started mashing buttons. The arrow keys illicted a movement from the lump on the ground and it turned out to be a little boy opening his eyes and standing up. Success! Now… what buttons do what?
There was no tutorial as to what I should do. I learned fairly quickly that the arrow keys moved left, right and jumped, but nothing else seemed to do anything. I didn’t seem to need anything else at that juncture, though, so I progressed to a cliff, slid down and into some spikes. I died and went back to the beginning (approx. 50 paces behind me).
After figuring out that trap, however, the game progressed fairly quickly. Controls are few and simple, gameplay is interesting and there’s always an indication of trouble before you fall into it. On a scale of 1-10 I’d give it a 7. I’d truely give it more if there were more, nay, ANY instructions. A little more incite on the story would be nifty as well. A fun little side-scroller with surprisingly decent graphics for being black and white.
