Panzers Costume Corner: I am Magneto, master of magnet! P2

So I Went to the Imax showing of the Dark Knight rises last night. It was the first night they were showing it – So of course I Had to go dressed up as Batman. Any chance to put on the outfit! At first I didn’t get as much attention as I usually do. Most of the time i get into outfit there are dozens of people getting their pictures taken with me and such… that was, until I stepped into the museum. Immediately I caught the Museum security guards attention. But they had no idea what to do. They created a small circle around me and started asking me what I was doing. Fortunately I had the foresight to call ahead, speak to the Manager and tell her that I was a crazy that was gonna show up in costume (Also faxed my costumes picture along with my ID). She saw what was going on and broke it up – save for one guard who made me let him search my belt. It was pretty awesome because the crowd of people that were waiting in line boo’d the guard and he backed off.

Anyways – with that out of my system its time for an update on my Halloween costume! By which, of course, I mean Magneto. If you were following my last post: you’ll remember that I still owed everyone a completed picture of the collar. I painted it all up in the same metallic purple paint that I used for the trim of the helmet.

Having finished that off I moved to the bracers. Now Magneto uses some kind of weird glove that has small breaks in it. Personally, I think trying to replicate that would be a real pain in the ass and wouldn’t look nearly as interesting in real life (top that all off with me being a terrible tailor lol!). With all of my experience with Batman and his gauntlets I figured I would draw from that and try to make something along those likes with a bit of a twist. Using the same idea as I did for the collar I began work on them.

I used excessive amount of heat to twist the piece of foam around my arm. This was actually a very challenging process because when the foam is heated it tends to stretch slightly. I wanted the bracer to sit on my arm without moving around so I wanted it as tight as possible. I must have had about 3 different attempts at each arm before i got the sizing right. Once it was all sized it was hot glued down and shaped into cones.

After gluing it all down I proceeded to add the same trim I used for the collar. After about 15 minutes I was satisfied I had reproduced the look I was going for and went in for the Plastidip. After 3 coats of plastidip I was ready to go to paint….

There you have it! Stay tuned for more …..
