By now I think everyone in our community knows that I am a super heroes freak….

Ya, that’s right. I’m the god damn Batman.

When I heard that steam was doing an open Beta last weekend for the new game Marvel Heroes, I would have been disgraced if I didn’t at least take a look at it. So I downloaded the client Friday and away I went!

So first and foremost I must clarify; it’s a multiplayer ARPG (action role-playing game) not a MMO.  If you are looking for a full blown MMO it’s NOT it and I don’t think the developers have ever pretended it was. Which is good because I don’t think this style of game play would be very suited to the tank/healer/dps combination that has yet to be reinvented over the course of the last 20 years. What do I mean by style of game play? It’s a straight up clone of diablo. The developer didn’t even try to hide it.

The game is fun overall for what it is.  Each of the 5 or 6 heroes I tried did feel fairly unique in their own way with some being a lot more enjoyable at low levels than others.  The Hulk really is a blast to play especially with headphones on.   As I told the others in my household when they commented how load the game was.  “Hulk doesn’t do quite”. I spent most of my time smashing around the poor trash mobs with hulks supremely overpowered attacks… and let me say the rag doll effect is just hilarious.

Do I think the game has long term appeal?  Probably as a game I come back and play once and awhile sure.  It won’t be the 2nd coming of WoW but who really expected it to be? It’s going to be a Free to play game like most of the games that are coming out these days so if you want something you can screw around with and watch poor little men fly around this is the one for you!
