Marvel Heroes – Sit Down and Shuttup!!

So Marvel heroes was released for founding members last night… ya I’m a founding member.  I’ve been playing the Hulk and let me say…. it’s awesome.

Marvel is one of the first MMOs to ever embrace the idea of allowing players to play their iconic characters rather than make them create their own and run along side of them like DC universe online did. This could be handled just horribly and painfully. Fortunatly for us Gazillion, the games programers, pull it off fairly nicely. The official reason that this is possible in this free-to-play action-RPG is a simple plot trick: Doctor Doom is using the Cosmic Cube’s reality-bending abilities to reshape the universe in his image, and his efforts are why armies of Hulks can appear onscreen together at once. But the unofficial reasoning is that it doesn’t really matter Everyone wants to play Spiderman and no one cares what the real reason is that there are a million spidermans on their screen.

Marvel heroes plays EXACT like a Diablo 3 clone.  Realtime mouse-clicking combat? Check. Tons of loot? You bet! Crafting? Absolutely. Randomly generated levels and loot drops?  They didn’t even TRY to hide the fact the stole every idea from blizzard. Upon selecting the Hulk as my hero, A premium character that I actually had to pay for, I was taken to Avenger’s Tower, which serves as one of the game’s public hubs where you can meet other heroes, visit your stash, talk to vendors and crafters, get new missions, and transport to mission areas. My first assignment was to beatdown an inmate uprising at The Raft, a prison for superhuman criminals (if you are more familiar with Arkham Asylum the concepts are similar), and as I smashed through the onslaught of revolting prisoners, side missions would pop up, such as saving a fallen guard from a surprise attack by HYDRA operatives. Within 5 minutes I had broken just about every computer in the place and very happily crushed two super criminals that no one cares about… Living Laser and the Green goblin. The nods to the character were nice.

The game itself screams my name into the air, I like diablo, I like comics, and I like the concepts of mmos. I will be spending some time with this one!
