Alright. I’ll say it. Marvel heroes sucks.

I was really excited about this one. Because of the lure of comic book characters it presents and the sheer fact I could crush things as the hulk… you guys knew I bought that premium character right? I enjoyed leveling through the story even though it was very boring as all hell and once I beat Doctor Doom, the end boss who BTW was actually a bit of a challenge, I was around level 25. After you beat the main the story there is no way to re-run it on a harder difficulty for more experience and loot like in Diablo where you can return on nightmare/Inferno difficulty. To give players something to do the game makes you grind daily’s, In an MMO this is nothing new, However the genius’ at Gazillion thought it would be a good idea to make these dailies the boss encounters you’ve done already! So you que for a daily, get dumped into a leveled up version of a dungeon you’ve already done, and then you get your loot…. Which is so poorly itemised that at level 32 I had yet to replace any of my level 16 gear.

My first question was; Okay so how long do I go through rehashed repetitive instances that I’ve done all week and get to do something new or exciting? The answer is never. Once you complete these 8 or 9 dailiy dungeons you move on to another 8 or 9 of the same dungeons in a higher difficulty. There are 3 sets of these, THREE! My next question was; okay if I have to run these over and over, when do I reach level cap? The game caps out at level 60… wait… 60? Yes that’s right; you beat all the content the game has to offer before reaching the half-way point. Here’s where things get really bad, to level from 25-30 takes as much time from 1-25! Leveling from 30-32 was horribly boring. There are group missions that can be run to break up the solo runs and I did try them. They could be a lot of fun if they didn’t grant only one 2 bars of experience, take 30 minutes to do, and had more people running around lost in circles than any game I’ve ever seen. It’s also hard to find groups for daily and the game doesn’t auto-group you for the daily so you have to run them solo which are incredibly boring. PvP in the game isn’t ready.. they have a “Battlgegrounds que” but everything is broken in it and the game actually has a banner that says “In development”. I tried it for all of 15mins and realized I was in a BG by myself lol.

I hate to say it, but now that my eyes have been opened I have to say – This game is doomed. The problem is this is a Marvel licensed game, not a generic ARPG. They are relying on fan service to sell the game, that comic book fans will want to play their favorite character. This game could thrive and still be around in a year, going strong. I’m going to stick it on the shelf for that long and take another look once they fix it. Incredibly disappointed.
