…is, UH, not what you might expect. 🙂
A month or so ago, I bought some D3 gold on the HC servers. 10 bucks for 300M. I then sat on it for a couple weeks, going about my regular business selling AH stuffs, etc. I even was still up from my initial fund, despite this huge influx.
I got a barb back to the early 40s, when my last barb died to a disconnect. I had, however, acquired some set items and nice rares for him, and so I figured, what the hell, I have gobs of money, lets do this.
And so, it was done. To the teeth, I refer you. Got the set pieces again…BUT…I didn’t stop there. I realized, ok, I bought 300M, and I’m sitting on 302 now. What did I even buy this for?
So, I started spending. I bought a weapon that was massively level reduced (something like -14), and among other things, roughly multiplied my damage output by TEN times. Yes, 10x previous. The game …altered.
I spent 10m on that weapon, and probably another 10m on at least 7 or 8 other pieces, transforming my char. Keep in mind, I don’t really group anymore, since I afk all the damn time. Blizzard talks about PVP in D3, which I think would be ridiculous, unless everybody is stripped of all gear and must wear whites/gray.
The point is, I realized that the game just became MORE FUN…a LOT more fun. I was cackling out loud 1-2 shotting everything around, fearless, on MP10 in nightmare mode.
Then I made another connection: I’ve only even spent 8 or 10% of what I even purchased. For 10 bucks, I bought probably a few months of great entertainment.
Tonight, I am motivated to write about my experience, because I had another realization: I would gladly pay 10 or 15 bucks a month to buy gold to spend in game on items that only benefit me to further my real life cackling and relieve stress about dieing in the game.
Presto: I convinced myself that I could probably be a D3 subscriber, even though it’s free. 🙂
