For me as an ex-WoW player (and Rift), dungeons were pretty much standard “5” person affairs… tank/healer/3 dps… and spending forever trying to get a tank and/or healer kinda sucked.  Bioware offers a little bit of a different take on your standard dungeon, opting instead to label them “Flashpoints” and making them 4 -man affairs.  Why that is nice for players is you can usually 2-man them (with companions) once you’re about 3 levels above the recommendation… in fact the first Flashpoint for the Empire, Black Talon, can even be 2-manned (with companions) at the recommended level.

Most flashpoint bosses drop “Orange” gear, that is gear that is customizable as you level up.  This is important — if you’re running around with some greens or blues that aren’t customized, get yourself into a Flashpoint with a buddy and run it repeatedly to get a Orange drop!  Not only will it be better gear (with mods, etc) but if you get a drop you don’t need, sell that bad boy!  Easy credz — most of the armor vendors for around 1000 credits!  Oh and did I mention social points and dark/light points you’ll get? Yeah you get those too.

There are daily quests to be found for these Flashpoints which will get you extra credits and a XP (little or lot depending on your level).

Then there are those dratted Space Missions… you know the ones you get once you get your space ship… the ones hard core players love and say “Oh do those!”  Yeaaaa… for me, not so much.  You get very little XP from them, no loot, and it costs money to fly to the location to run them.  You do get Fleet Commendations.  So OK maybe they’re a little bit fun, but you really need to upgrade your ship as high as you can to your level to run anything more than Jabiim Escort.  I’m level 27, my ship has all upgrades and I still have trouble doing Cartel Listening Station.

As with everything, your mileage may vary and you might love Space Missions and hate Flashpoints… the fact is there is something for everyone in SWTOR and if you haven’t tried both Flashpoints and Space Missions out yet, please give them a try and let me know what you think!
