March 23/2012 – Server Status:

As you all know, I recently bought a house. It was/is a money and time leaching experience. I’m sure you have all noticed I have been a less than apparent part of the community as of late, almost as if the sun had suddenly disappeared for a while. It’s okay, it’s okay! I haven’t left you for long and you flowers may soon grow again.

In my absence, some of you might have attempted to access the Minecraft server unsuccessfully. No one had logged in for a while and it was using my resources so I took it down until people noticed. Well, over the last week I have gotten a few inquiries about it, so I will be bringing it back up. This time, though, it won’t be running on my personal computer.

I recently upgraded Adrienne’s (my wife) computer. Unfortunately for me, this meant new everything but the hard drive. Fortunately for you, this means a dedicated Minecraft machine that’s only lacking a hard drive.
Well, almost dedicated. We’ve decided that my son is stealing our computers too much and it’s time he got his own. So, we’re setting up the old one for him and are planning to run the Minecraft server off of it. He’ll be using it a lot less than I use mine so it will be a bit more stable. The hard drive will be here around the middle of next week so the server should be up and ready by the end of the week.
“But Minecraft God, why wouldn’t you put the server up on your computer in the meantime? I mean… if it pleases you… NO, DON’T SMITE ME! PLEASE! I HAVE CHILDR…”

Well, Adrienne doesn’t like our computers to be in practical places. By practical, I mean near a cable outlet. This means I had to go out and buy her a wireless network adaptor and now we’re running wirelessly. Fine for what we do, bad for running servers off of, not just because of the unreliability of wireless but the inability to do certain needed router adjustments on the fly. This third machine would be stuck in a corner near the cable modem. All will be right with the world. You’ll see!

TL;DR: Gimmie a week and you’ll get yer stinkin’ server back.

UPDATE April 2/2012:

What? A week came and went and the server still isn’t up?? Who’s in charge here?! I demand to be kept apprised of… oh… nevermind…

So, what happened? NEWEGG HAPPENED, THAT’S WHAT!

I have gotten another crap part from newegg.com that should have worked but will be nearly as expensive to send back as it was to buy it due to their policy of not paying the return shipment costs on defective products. But it’s what should I expect from a $20 hard drive, I suppose.

I’m getting another hard drive, hopefully tonight, from a store I can drive back to if it doesn’t work. If so the rig will be up and running tomorrow night. Sowwy.
