I found this today while surfing around and thought it was worth a plug. www.kickstarter.com
“Kickstarter is a new way to fund creative projects. We believe that a good idea, communicated well, can spread fast and wide. And large group of people can be a tremendous source of money and encouragement. Kickstarter is powered by a unique all-or-nothing funding method where projects must be fully-funded or no money changes hands.”
What does this mean? It means that small projects can be brought to life by the power of the inter-webs! There are lots of people out there that want to create things like movies and video games but don’t have the backing that most 3rd part developers have. So what the creator of the project can do is put there ad up on this site and say “Hey guys! I want to do a movie based on my life, and I need $10,000 to do it. Everyone who pitches in gets a copy of the dvd!” and then he puts a deadline on it.
It’s a pretty neat system and it’s allowing a lot of indie developers the ability to bring games like:
Shadowrun: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1613260297/shadowrun-returns?ref=recommended and Leisure suit Larry http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/leisuresuitlarry/make-leisure-suit-larry-come-again?ref=recommended a chance to climb back into the limelight!
Might be worth checking out 🙂
