I found this today while surfing around and thought it was worth a plug. www.kickstarter.com

And large group of people can be a tremendous source of money and encouragement. Kickstarter is powered by a unique all-or-nothing funding method where projects must be fully-funded or no money changes hands.”

What does this mean? It means that small projects can be brought to life by the power of the inter-webs! There are lots of people out there that want to create things like movies and video games but don’t have the backing that most 3^rd part developers have. So what the creator of the project can do is put there ad up on this site and say “Hey guys! I want to do a movie based on my life, and I need $10,000 to do it. Everyone who pitches in gets a copy of the dvd!” and then he puts a deadline on it.

It’s a pretty neat system and it’s allowing a lot of indie developers the ability to bring games like:
