Panzers Costume Corner: Building Swtor Panzer Part1

I was cruising through my regular costuming forums I came across a post showing a TON of Star Wars related Pepakura files. Inside the post I came across a really interesting ad. “Although no one has paid or commissioned me to do any of these, I do gladly take requests and choose which ones I’m willing to make in whatever order I decide. So, feel free to ask for a Star Wars universe related pep you would like to see and I will see what I can do. Also, I do take commissions now and then, so there is a higher chance of your request being created. If you are willing to propose a commission just shoot me a PM.”

Pepakura files (Pep for short), for those of you that didn’t follow my Magneto helmet build a few months ago, is basically a paper pattern that you can cut apart and create an outer shell of just about anything you imagination can come up with. This fellow here actually strictly specializes in Star wars related designs.

Even Poor Thrall can’t escape Pepakura!

So of course I curiously I asked him “Can you do a Bounty Hunter helmet from SWTOR”. I figured he would want an arm and a leg to design it for me so I was more just asking for the sheer sake of learning what kind of costs are associated with this kind of request. He responded very quickly and wanted to know what the helmet looked like and if I could provide reference materials. A few quick screenshots of my toon later and we were off. Price wise (which I was asked not to discuss) was extremely reasonable – so I figured after the yearbook project was over I would tackle this costume build! Seeing as Batman is pretty much done for the time being.

So essentially I am attempting to build Panzer. Not the World of Warcraft incarnation – but the star wars version. I just couldn’t see myself in big hulking yellow shoulder pads that my blood elf paladin sports proudly. Now rather then get this fellow to build me all the pieces of armor that the character is wearing, which I’m pretty sure Lora would hang me over, I have been scouring the interwebs trying to find armor pieces that could fit into the build. (Cheaper and much easier!)

I came across a forum a few years back called the 405th. It’s site that only really discuss’ Ironman and Halo costume amour building. In their forums I came across a build for a Halo MK VI chest I figured would make a good starting point. The template is designed for an EVA foam build. It’s quick, easy, and doesn’t cost more then a couple of dollars per sheet. The draw back to foam is that it doesn’t give a lot of room for error with your glue gun. You simply cannot get it off you touch the wrong spots. So basically what I’m saying is mine what look anywhere as good as someone who actually knows how to work with foam, but for the fun of it I’m diving in!

Sure…. It looks star war-sy enough!

So Swtor Panzer is underway!
