PC – Dungeon Keeper Gold

I’m an old school gamer. Now, not as old as some… but I think I can say “if I enjoyed playing games back in the days of DOS” I can justify my claim. Over the course of the past year during my longest WoW break to date; I have been bouncing around from game to game on a regular basis. I thought it would be cool to do a couple of write ups on some of them that have perked my interests.

Todays installment of this latest blog is about one that I had alot of fun with in my mid teens – Dungeon Keeper gold. This game immediately caught my attention as it’s a dungeon builder Sim with a very different spin – you don’t play the good guy. Your role in this game is to act as the dungeon boss that tells his minions how to build their underground dungeon. You must horde gold by getting your basic “peon” minions to mine for it, create hatcheries to feed your creatures, build lairs for minions and attract minions to defend yourself. “Heroes” like to break into the dungeon to try to steal your gold, kill your minions, and demolish your dungeon. It was a very unique spin on things and was good for countless hours of fun!

Recently one of my favorite site for old games http://www.gog.com/ offered this game up as a freebie as part of one of their promotions. It was an easy click and you owned your own copy reworked to run in a built in DOSBOX. But if you missed the promotion the game itself is worth less then $10. I highly recommend it.

These days playing the bad guy isn’t nearly as uncommon as it was 17 years ago, the few that were out there fell pretty hard into obscurity. Do you have any old games that you got to be the villain?
