Figured I would start this topic and see if anyone can add to it. There are a bunch of little things that make life so much easier in this game that is never really fully described to you, like most mmos. So here is my list of things that everyone should know that is playing SWTOR:
1. Only one person has to be present to turn in most group quests. Once they do, you get an option to ‘holocall’ and appear at the dialogue as a hologram. You can still make choices; however, you will be exempt from choices that perform physical actions. This is important because you always have one gut that will “ask for a summon”.
2. Gear your companions well, trust me, it’s worth the investment for levelling. This is a sore spot for me, they should just find their own gear!
3. Camera zoom by default is not set to maximum distance. It can be increased in the settings.
4. The first flashpoint, Black Talon, only needs 2 players with their companions and tends to be easier like this.
5. Don’t go overboard levelling crew skills(professions) before you have your mount. Otherwise you won’t be able to afford the 48k credit cost at level 25. The exception being slicing which makes money directly(as opposed to needing to find out which craftables sell well on AH)
6. Any class can rez a dead person in their party when you right click on them (out of combat of course) Mind = blown when someone in my group told me that.
7. At the end a Flashpoint, you can exit the area by clicking the “Exit Area” button above the mini-map. True story, bro. Don’t be stuck in an instance for 20 minutes…
8. If you get a BoE with that shiny orange color crystal in it, taking it out will make both the crystal and the item bound to you without warning.
9. What Reverse Engineering acctually was used for. All those things I crafted and just sold to a vendor…
10. Character names can include 2 apostrophes, 1 dash and there is a 15 character limit. – Bioware DO NOT offer any name change services unless you’re breaking the naming policy. No paid service and sending a ticket to a GM won’t help. Not even the punctuation can be corrected.
11. Everyone has an ability in their “spellbook” general tab called EMERGENCY FLEET PASS. This brings you back to the capital city like a built in hearthstone with one destination. – Thanks Grokk!
12. Hitting Space bar in a Space Mission does a barrel roll. THis makes you epicly hard to hit.
13. You get sprint at level 14. This makes you run 35% faster… yes you will move fast in this game and those long treks through the desert will not suck.
14. Slicing can earn you a great deal of credits while leveling, and it doesn’t require using the AH or any other timesinks. Even if you drop it at 50, it’s worth using to gain a lot of credits early on.
15. Your mount is obtained at level 25. It will cost you 48,000 credits, think before you spend before getting this.
16. Target of Target is Alt T (look under the Key Bindings Tab). This one has come in handy many times.
17. Spacebar skips cinematics of spaceships docking/departing.
18. If everyone in your party picks the same speech option you actually get more social points.
19. Orange items can be kept untill level 50 and still be viable by keeping the mods up to date.
20. If an item doesn’t sell on AH, you get your deposit back.
21. you can change the ability used when right clicking an enemy by simply placing the desired skill in the “1” quickslot.
22. Jumping while moving results in you moving slower. So jump bunnies from WOW/CS need to learn not to jump, it actually imparts a disadvantage – to hell with this game.
23. Companion being a doofus and doesn’t want to loot the gathering skill? mount up then right click it and you’ll gather it yourself. Stop being so lazy.
24. Take time to explore, even though your quest is in front of you, take time to walk round the back to the dead end and see what’s there. Many a time if drifted from the actual quest path and found those security chests. EASY CREDITS.
25. Improving your relationship with your companion means they complete crew skill missions faster.
So there you have it. Do you have anything useful that I missed?
